About

Hi, I’m Lauren. I grew up next to the Appalachian Trail in eastern Pennsylvania. During the school year I learned knots and things in Girl Scouts, and I spent my summers camping, reading, and riding my bike in state parks. I did the city thing for a while, and now I live in Connecticut and explore the New England woods whenever I can. I dayhike, backpack, feed birds on my porch, run outside, and occasionally make my own backpacking gear.

Sometimes I can convince my husband to stomp around the woods with me. He calls me Lumba (hence the blog name) and I call him Hubs or Cave. Our corgi mutt Lola is up for woods-tromping sometimes, but she also will dig in her heels and try to pull us back to the car. Hubs hasn’t tried that trick yet, but as I get more and more into backpacking, I think he’s considering it.

When I’m not hanging around in the woods, I can often be found working with kids at a public library, listening to nonfiction audiobooks, recycling old clothes with help from my sewing machine, or writing/journaling. I love sharing my knowledge with others, and I hope you find this blog entertaining or educational, and ideally, both!
